I was there to photograph a wedding in January and I missed out on the natural beauty of the gardens. I missed the outdoors gardens, but the inside spaces were also stunning. This bride asked for a natural and spontaneous wedding in the photojournalist style, and the pictures in the slider at the top illustrates this approach.

Historical Background

I want to share my experience with the Cameron Estate Inn Wedding venue. Here are some of the pictures I took on Saturday.

The grounds on this estate are truly beautiful and the place has an interesting history. Purchased in 1875 by Simon Cameron, President Lincoln’s Secretary of War, the estate became Simon’s country estate. Held by the family until 1961. In 1981 it became the Cameron Estate Inn.

Best Time to Visit

I would definitely recommend Cameron Estate Inn as a wedding venue during the Spring, Summer and Autumn of the year because of the beautiful grounds. Our wedding was held at the Conservatory, where indoor weddings are held. But we were not able to go outside due to the extreme cold weather with ice and snow on the ground.

As an indoors venue it was also serviceable for this wedding with about 75 in attendance. It disappointed me that we couldn’t take our pictures outside and take advantage of the beautiful, though frozen, surroundings.

Normandy Farms is one of the top wedding venues in the Philadelphia area and we had a perfect day for this 5:30 wedding. The temperature reached almost 60 degrees with full sunshine, wonderful for mid-November.

The first-look is becoming more popular because it’s a nice opportunity to take some pictures. You still get the candid reactions and it can allow us to take all the group pictures before the wedding. This is particularly important when using outdoors locations.

We also had the opportunity to do couple portraits outside at this gorgeous venue.

And, of course, you’ll want those bridal party shots in your album.

Three of these beautiful women were sisters but all 4 of them had a splendidly tight bond. That’s just fantastic, don’t you think!? And the bride did a great job putting these colors together, even the roof colors of the venue blend in.

The bride was pleased to show off her beautifully detailed tiara. And look how the fall foliage works again with the colors in the bouquet.

These were a lively group of people and we photographers never tire of getting one bride and groom portrait. Its great when the bridal party is free during a sunset, as we had here, with some beautiful golden light at that time of day.

We loved the exuberance and animation of the bride and her evident enjoyment of the day.

Oh, and they served a cocktail hour while we shooting group pictures outside. It made for a nice flow, then the wedding and then the dinner and reception.

Bride and dad were beaming walking down the isle and I always like getting a low shot from the back as they approach the alter. But a higher shot from atop a stepstool is also nice with a wider angle of view.

And what a grand finale to the ceremony with the groom stepping up the enthusiasm and showed how thrilled he was to be married to his lovely bride.

I hope I was able to give you a flavor of the great day we had shooting this wedding at Normandy Farms – one of the top wedding venues in the Philadelphia area. The bride was beautiful and everything was perfect; you can’t beat that!

We had beautiful weather and the ceremony was held outside from 4:30 and 5, and by the time the ceremony was ending it was nearly dark.

Country clubs are a popular venue for weddings, and this one did a great job with the Hors d’oeuvres served on a covered outdoors patio.

And by the time we got to the group shots, as you can see, it was pitch black outside.

As I said, we had beautiful weather for early November and no one was complaining about being cold.

However, I thought the reception/banquet hall was a little small for the 167 people who attended. But more important that is the quality of the food and service, so everyone had a great time!
